Hey Kiddos - - I'm back.
Didja miss me? It's OK if you didn't.
In addition to dealing with the ever-day-for-the-last-7 1/2-years Lupus issues, there was the added attraction of a bout with vertigo.
Whoa doggie - this is a particulary nasty little problem, and believe me you only want to read about it in medical books. Any movement whatsoever sends the room a spinning like a top. Remember when you used to spin around as a kid and get all dizzy when you stopped? Well think about that times 1,000. The spinning/movement feeling is so intense that your stomach just loses it. Sorry for the graphic description.
Let's not spend times focusing on the negatives. What's good that's going on? Well, for one it's fall, my all time super-duper favorite time of year. This is when I start making and serving big pots of chili, including my favorite White Chili. I know, I know, it sounds like a blasphemy, but trust me, it's delish!!!!
It's also time for some real homemade gumbo. You gotta get past the color though, 'cause a good file' gumbo is kind of an army green. It's so yummy it makes you smack your grandmammy.
So what y'all been up to? Working hard and playing hard, I hope. The blogosphere is sure busy. I think it's going to spin off into outer space soon. What's everybody gonna possibly talk about at the end of November. Hmmmmmm.
I'm off to decorate the outside of Ruby's with dried Illinois corn stalks and pumpkins. My visit to the pumpkin farm was awesome! I took Chico and he was wearing the new sweater I knit for him.
A great time was had by all.
Hope you've been being good to yourself and havin' some fun!

A Sea of Pumpkins - Illinois
hi, Aunt Ruby.
i'm sorry--i had no idea. i hope you're feeling much better.
fall is also my favorite season! Brian and i will have to pay a visit to the bar & grill to try some of that white chili. we're always looking for new places to go for day trips or whatnot. we haven't been doing enough of those lately.
the pumpkin farm sounds like fun! i'd like to go this one in Kenosha where you cut them right off the vine yourself. there used to be one in Volo, but they aren't open to the public anymore.
feel better. ^_^

Whew Ruby, I can sympathize with the vertigo, been enjoying it as a side effect of a raft of tick bites this last week. Too old for that nonsense..
White chili? Ya got me gal, never heard of it but I'll try most anything once. Is it made with gator?
It has been waaay too long since I've made a pot of gumbo, mostly because it's been so hard to get hold of dynamite to go fishin' with the last few years! I gotta be careful about the file' part, back around 1960, took it upon myself to make my own root beer, went down to a grove of sassafras and dug up some roots, peeled, dried them on the roof, and brewed up the finest case of hives a kid could have!

Hi Ruby:
I am sure glad you're back. I was getting worried. The vertigo doesn't sound like much fun. Did you know that my brother over at North Coast Cafe declared October 17th as leaf day 40 years ago?
God bless,
David
